Overview

SnapSolve is a Chrome extension that helps students solve math problems by capturing a selected area of the screen and using AI to analyze it. This policy explains what happens to that data.

What We Collect

SnapSolve does not collect names, email addresses, accounts, or any personally identifiable information. We do not use analytics or tracking of any kind.

The only data involved is:

• The screenshot you select. Captured only when you click "Screenshot & Solve" and drag to select an area. Never captured automatically or in the background.
• A random install identifier. Generated on your device when the extension is installed. It is a random string used solely to enforce daily usage limits, and is not linked to you, your browser, or any personal information.
• Your API key, if you choose to add one. Stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API.
• Your most recent solution. The last screenshot and its solution are kept on your device so the panel can show them again when you reopen it. They are overwritten by your next solve and never leave your device.

How Your Screenshot Is Processed

There are two paths, depending on whether you have added your own API key.

Without your own API key (default): The selected screenshot is sent to our server, which forwards it to Google's Gemini API and returns the solution to you. We do not store screenshots, solutions, or any record of what you solved. The image passes through and is discarded.

With your own API key: The screenshot is sent directly from your browser to Google's Gemini API. It never touches our server, and we never see your API key.

Third Party Services

SnapSolve uses Google's Gemini API to analyze screenshots. Your use of that service is subject to Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Google may use data submitted through its free API tier to improve its models. If you prefer that your screenshots not be handled this way, you can add your own API key in Settings, which sends data directly to Google under your own account terms.

Our server is hosted on Vercel, which may log standard request metadata such as IP addresses as part of normal operation. See Vercel's privacy policy.

Data Retention

We do not operate a database. Screenshots and solutions are not written to disk or retained after your request completes. Daily usage counts are held temporarily in memory and are not persisted.

Children's Privacy

SnapSolve does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Note that Google's Gemini API has its own age requirements, which apply if you choose to create your own API key.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date above.

Deleting Your Data

Everything SnapSolve stores lives on your own device. Removing the extension deletes all of it, including your API key and any saved solution. You can also clear your API key at any time in Settings.
